As we approach the moment of truth on Tuesday I am feeling very nervous and cautiously hopeful. There are many dmographic groups on which this election depends. The "Catholic" vote is the major swing demographic group. If Catholics DO NOT vote for Obama- he cannot win and that is why in my capacity as an informed and practicing Catholic I have dedicated most of my blogs.
I have had many conversations over the last few days and it has disturbed no end to see how many of my fellow Catholics are voting for Mr. Obama: A Religious Education Director, a few Cathechists and a Eucharistic Minister to name but a few. How? Why? I have spoken to Obama supporters until I am blue in the face and I believe many of you have as well. It is the most frustrating experience I have ever gone through, but to debate with seemingly committed Catholics who have chosen to vote for Obama is exhausting to say the least. Many of them are traditional Boston Democrat Catholics who continually vote for Kennedy and Kerry and still have this antiquated notion that there is still a connection between the Democrat Party and Catholics. The Democrat Party has abandoned everything the Church holds sacred.
A little history for you on this topics. In the late 70's and 80's the "Seamless Garment" idea was promulgated by some Catholic bishops with help from some liberal Catholic political scientists and politicians as a way to ease the mind/consciences of Catholics to vote for PRO-ABORTION candidates. Simply, the "Seamless Garment:" idea put all social issues on an equal footing. For instance- abortion and the environment were given equal moral standing. Thus we saw Catholic politicians voting in line with the Church regarding the issues of poverty and civil rights but directly opposed to the Church in matters of Abortion, Euthanasia, and now even Marriage and Human Cloning. If I remember my history correctly- The Nazi Party in Germany in the 1930's and 1940's promoted the very same ideas. The Nazi government took upon itself the right to decide who was human and non-human (unter-menschen) and from there followed the right of Nazi-supported scientific experiments to be conducted on such non-persons. The Nazi government promoted Euthanasia as honorable and "mercifully" eliminated the mentally retarded, and political dissidents. The Nazi government also promoted a Nazi version of marriage and a "good German family". Redefining life into the Nazi view of the world. Does this political platform sound in any way familiar with the Democrat Platform whose standard is proudly held by Barack Hussein Obama???
With the hindsight of history and how apathy allowed the Nazi Party to become the elected government of Germany in 1932, how can we as Catholics see the EVIL which is promoted, and supported by Barack Obama. It was the mentality of the pocketbook which got Hitler elected in 1932. There are issues far more important than our pocketbooks this year and that issue is LIFE!! Even a friend (who is not Catholic- yet) has challenged me to "give him (Obama) a chance if he is elected". NO!! NEVER!! Absolutely not!!! Obama is a man who supports full term abortions. That is unacceptable and non-negotiable. Obama does not have a view on Abortion- he has a RADICAL VIEW on Abortion. So, to my friend and anyone reading this blog who knows a Catholic supporter for Obama- please direct them to this blog and especially to the links I am listing below.
I challenge anyone to view these videos and still believe that a Catholic or any Christian can vote for Barack Obama in 2008.
