Principles Anyone?

As you can see the name of my blog is "For God and Country" and as far as I can figure these two should always go hand in hand. Today's blog in remembrance of Holy Week, I want to bring up the matter of "Principles" and their importance in today's political culture. St. Thomas More said "When a statesman foregoes his conscience he leads his country down the quick road to chaos."  And now, how many times have we heard this: "I am personally opposed to abortion but I will not impose my beliefs on anyone."

Presidential Candidate Rudy Giuliani said these very words on CNN and also added that he will not change his position in defending Federal Funding of abortions. The Republican Platform has always maintained the Pro-Life position and that is why I am a registered Republican. At this point in history we need someone who is "principled" and does not compromise his/her principles. Over the last 30+ years we have seen what the "Chipping away at principles" has done to our culture. We are familiar with the term "Cafeteria Catholic," well, we have created citizens who have become Cafeteria- Politicians. Persons who are ready to abandon their principles for the sake of votes and political office. The abandonment of the principles in which this country was founded is what has brought us to the state we're in today. We are at the point politcally, where we cannot even decide whether it is correct to defend ourselves against people who are out to destroy us and our nation. England, once the builders of an empire in which the sun never set,  was made impotent against a 3rd rate country like Iran. This happened because, like us, they too had long ago abandoned the common sense virtues of their heritage. Black and White have become Gray and Off-white, where the truth has been made something that is unknowable or unlearnable.

The hatred against the United States and the West by Muslims is a symptom of this mallaise of compromise which has plagued our nation since the Vietnam War. We have abandoned God and His laws and the results are: Abortion, Partial Birth Abortion, Euthanasia, Legalized Suicide, Divorce rate of 50%, Homosexuality as normal behavior- taught in Elementary schools, Pedophilia, Pornography and Child Pornography, Drugs and Violent Crime and I could go on and on. Academia and the Media are mainly to blame for they have promulgated these ideas of Liberalism and Relativism. As much as the Muslims are wrong in their use of terror and murder they are absolutely right in their hatred of all these "Virtues of Liberalism."

Finally here is what 30+ years of Liberalism and Relativism have brought us to. Just a few days ago we remembered the death of Teri Schiavo two years ago. Teri Schiavo was NOT on life support but only required food and water to survive, like all living things do. THIS NATION SENTENCED THIS WOMAN TO DEATH BY DEHYDRATION SIMPLY BECAUSE HER QUALITY OF LIFE WAS DEEMED SUBSTANDARD AND WORTHLESS. Some so-called "enlightened" minds thought it better to water the flowers in her room rather than quench the thirst of this poor woman. This Holy Week let us all remember one other person who said "I Thirst." God help us! God Save us from ourselves!!
